STITCHES AND WITCHES is a standalone read. In this type of story there really isn't a HEA yet it ends on a high note and leaves you with a sense of fun. This is the second book in the series. Lucy has inherited her grandmother's knit shop in Oxford, England. She is a young woman that is just not sure if she belongs or not. However, she is finding her way. She is single, an American, had spent a lot of time with her gran and was shocked to hear of her death and even more shocked to find she is the sole heir. Her parents traveled a lot and was out of country for months at a time so she stayed with gran to go to school and have as normal a life as she could. After hearing of her gran's death she sees her walking down the street. She then discovers that her gran is now a vampire. She was murdered but before she passed she was "turned" by a vampire. Lucy then discovers that there is a whole group of vampires living in the tunnels beneath her shop. They are the new age vampires, they get their blood from a supply the doctor gets for them. They pay for donations of blood and then the vampires store it in top of the line refrigerators in their tunnel world. They are all quite civilized and each has their own background and live the good life. Lucy also discovers she is a witch and has powers. She needs to train herself and practice spells to become a fully functioning witch. Not everyone knows she is a witch.Lucy discovers that her gran knew all of these vampires and set up a knitting group in her shop. So when she was murdered they took her in and she continues to live just in another way!! Rafe is the leader of this little group. He always seems to be with Lucy when she needs him. Lucy is quite attracted to Rafe but I don't know that their lives will ever match up. Lucy is sort of a wild card. This story has no sex involved, it can be read by any audience and I think it will be enjoyed by teens as well as a much older group. It is a fun, light hearted read. There is a murder to solve but the victim was not a nice man and many wanted to see him dead. You don't feel sad or weepy because Lucy in her sleuthing always keeps you laughing. I definitely recommend this book. Start with book 1 and you will get the full story on some of the characters. If you just read this book you can still enjoy the story and not feel lost. Enough of all the characters background is told so that you can understand their connection. I really enjoyed book one and now book 2. I look forward to book three. The stories DO NOT end with a cliffhanger. The next book just picks up where the other story ends. All loose ends are tied up. You will also get a touch of living in England and their customs and thoughts. I've never been to Oxford but I feel like I know the place now. It is a very entertaining read.I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/12/18
NAN.CY.Stop. I can't. I love you.Kitschy, campy, cozy. The bastard lovechild of my introductions to love of literature and fiction and stress-relief, Nan-Drew and Harry Potter.(But not childish...but also not too *adult* i.e. gore/sex. I have no problems with those things because I love mystery and most people like sex, but balance matters, and I don't get people who love to read BDSM billionaries and paranormal pedophile stalkers, which I find a simultaneously boring and culturally detrimental downturn.)I'll be heartbroken if you ever stop writing these. Write them forever!Any requests I'd have wouldn't be critical, but a demand for more. More pages, more mystery, more coziness, more knitting, more preciously harmless (to good guys) vamps, more fluffy familiars, more books!Trump is president and the earth is dying and I'm trying to pass math classes. I need this sweet, simple kind of stuff, and the impending holidays it so suits, and my own knitting, and tea, and cozy quarters, to cope with the dystopian hellscape we no longer have to read to experience.Thank you for your contribution to maintaining my sanity!Light up some palo santo, put on some peppermint tea, run a nice bubble bath, and recharge your batteries for fighting the good fight, like Lucy, Gran, Nyx, and Co. <3
In Stitches and Witches, Warren crafts a tightly knitted cozy mystery within a fantastical world of vampires, witches and wool. Her finely defined characters are so unique and likable they drew me into their world. The murder, set in a tea room, was so brilliantly written I didn't see it coming. Intrigued by all the subplot action in the room, the murder came as a complete surprise. Loved it!As Lucy unravels the whodunit, the mystery deepens in delicious detail. A thoroughly enjoyable read.I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy light fantasy, witch cozies, or just a good yarn (pun intended).
I love this series. Lucy and the vampires once again investigate a murder. I like how Lucy struggles with learning how to knit and her magical powers. I liked learning more about the lives of the vampires when they were human. Those backgrounds helped with the invest. I love the humor, and Lucy's interest in a handsome police officer. This is a good read and mystery.
I love knitting and the title caught my attention. Knitting, vampires and witches makes for an unlikely but interesting mix. The cast of characters will keep you entertained, charmed and involved. I wonder if every city could use a vampire investigation team to help sort out all sorts of crimes. I LOVED this story from start to finish. Remember the adage “All may not be as it seems!â€
It was well written and perfectly suspenseful. I think Lucy and I figured out the solution near the same time. There is far too much going on in Lucy's life for her sanity.
Another fun, exciting story with switched and vampires. I have enjoyed the characters tremondsly good job and get out the book of spells.
I read books 1-3 in this series pretty much back-to-back and enjoyed every fun and endearing moment of them. They're great cozy mysteries with a paranormal bent, and a really good palate cleanser when the world or your other reading gets you down.
