I let my son read this book to his brothers and the first thought that came to their minds was Jumanji! Only, instead of a video game appearing on an old tv screen, this story has a magical wilderness app on a phone that took four unsuspecting kids to an outside adventure. Josh, Tyler, Melisa and Katie we're magically teleported to the forest and had to do something to survive Moose Lake.This was an interesting read. My boys collectively asked me to (jokingly) download the particular app mentioned in the book so they could join in the fun too with Josh and company. My littlest one was a little serious though. When I asked him about the characters in the story, he said he liked Melisa because even of she was a know-it-all, she seemed like a good girl. Both my two older sons liked Tyler because he was funny and and seemed like a caring friend.My kids loved that the book also featured about wildlife and nature. Reading a fun story while learning is a big plus to them.Now they can't wait to read the next book adventure that awaits the new four friends.

Wow - hard to believe the great reviews.... yes, the story has promise... but it's really never delivered. Really liked the title and had high hopes for this. Targeted toward middle schoolers, the writing is predictable and not of high level. Did not like the ending at all. Might be more suitable for struggling readers...? I DID like the extra information which gave out helpful hints on being in the woods, but sadly, do not recommend this.

Surviving Moose Lake was quite the adventure. I felt like Josh, the main character, was talking directly to me. Josh shares what he is thinking, feeling, smelling, and touching. Josh was so descriptive in what he was telling me that I felt made like I was on the adventure too. Josh and three other classmates work together to survive in the wilderness, as they strive to complete a mission. Some basic survival skills are figured out, thus the reader learns these as well. Good things to know, just in case! I see there are more interesting facts and survival information at the back of the book. Thanks Karl Steam.

Author Karl Steam writes in a wonderful style that guarantees the attention of young minds. If you ever wanted to bond even more with your children or grandchildren, this would be a lovely read to share with them. I read it with my grand kids and they loved it.It seems to me that this book has been created with a lot of love and joy and itâ€™s apparent that the author really enjoys creating such wonderful stories. Weâ€™ll be looking forward to seeing whatâ€™s coming next. Five stars from us. Well done Karl!

I was almost expecting Dragons to aooear when the story took off, but I think it was just as interesting sticking to nature.Nice short read, and I definitely recommend it for the suggested age group for the book.

I honestly enjoyed it I do wish it were longer but one does not simply add two hundred pages to a book

I have been reading this book more like everyday with the bible out loud.I had a dream that I was walking in a very unclean area.The people looked filthy and the places I was walking were filthy.I walked to a bus stop and noticed I was carrying two huge bars of soap.I remember seeing a man who was at the bus stop looking at me.I walked to get a plastic bag at a store for the soap.I saw a demon lurking an it leaped on me a I drop the soap in my hand.it didn't want the soap it wanted me.The soap is the word of God and this book.That was the two bars.The demons want me to drop The word that is washing me.They are attacking me in many ways so I can drop the word of God and the prayers so they can dwell in me. I have gone through so many attacks in my life.A lot from occult family members.Use this book and listen to your dreams.I had a dream my door was marked by someone who wanted to hurt me.I woke up prayed got anointing oil and anointed my door.This book brings many warnings too much to write.

This book has many vintage type lace patterns for bedspreads, and table cloths , doilies etc.. it has and has translation for german, french, for the chart symbols so someone who did not speak english wanted to use this for a charted pattern, their are written patterns as well.see my video review of some of the details of the book, there is some good information and lengthy patterns, but good instructions....altho i have not used it except to read it and re read it, I have enjoyed the book and information, I find the print is a bit too small for me and if I were to use the book for the pattern, I would probably enlarge the pattern. I usually knit things that are smaller, sweaters, scarves etc.. so just have not undertaken anything as large as a bedspread, but I totally admire those who do... maybe one day... I will jump into it.. for an heirloom to the grandchildren

This is a great classic book (along with her second book) to add to your "keeper" knitting library. Not only are Kinzel's patterns timeless and beautiful (in particular Azalea, Primula and Sunray patterns), she writes each one with the expectation that you will customize them. She includes a small or large version for each pattern, even a curtain and bedspread pattern. Some patterns she has included instructions on how to resize them or change their shape. Her introductory chapters are also packed with information on how to work squares and corners, how to block to bring out details, casting off in crochet, and my favorite - how to read lace charts in English, French and German. There are some exceptional German and Austrian lace patterns available on the internet. Full of great advice that is clear and understandable - Kinzel was an accomplished instructor in Czechoslovakia and in England and it shows. So much information in such a small, inexpensive book that it still astounds me. Wish I had purchased her books before all the others - I wouldn't have needed them.

I would have liked previewing a couple pages before purchasing because I probably would not have purchased it. Instructions are vintage and difficult for me to understand clearly. For someone reading a 'first' book of learning how to Knit lace, clear Instructions are important. Also photos are in black and white which is a big disappointment. Needless to say I won't be buying the 'second' book.

The text is interesting, although the style of the patterns is dated (tea cloths, anyone?). However, I think the book is worth the money for a couple of the patterns. I'd like to knit them in thicker yarn with larger needles to make afghans. I could have given the book more stars, but I think Dover reproductions aren't really good quality. The charts look as though they were copied on an office copier. The detail isn't always distinct.

Great book. It has the pattern I want for the curtains I want to knit for my closet bedroom. I can hardly wait to start knitting. Thank you so much, perfect for what I want. This is a good seller with great prices. I recommend this seller again.

This book is one of the classics of lace knitting, referred to in many more modern books. I bought it to have it im my collection. The instructions are good especially as there are both chart and 'old fashioned' written instuctions, so that you can check the chart with the traditonal k1, p1 type pattern - useful if you are new to chart reading. But I would consider it a beginners book, as an experience lace knitter, I had to learn a new set of chart marks - time someone set a standard there. The main down side is that the patterns are for household items (chair backs, dressing table sets) that no one uses any longer. Fun to knit if you can find an alternative use such as crocheting them together to make a bedspread.

I was hoping for some information on making large round shawls. There is not much information on that, in this book. Directions are given for mostly rectangular items, with the occasional doily or other small item. The round items given are too small to be adapted for use as shawls; and I'm not skilled enough to determine how to add rounds to a design to enlarge it.

This was my first time taking the TEAS test. The version I took was the ATI version. I would have to say that this book is amazing. I signed up for the test 2 weeks before I took it. The only thing I did to prepare myself was reading this book and doing the practice tests it had. This book is awesome and it covers all of the main material that you will need to know. I was very surprised to see that the questions on the TEAS were very similar to those in this practice book. I would highly recommend this book!

I had previously purchased a different book and found your recommendation from someone on YouTube. Since I had used the different book to study for the exam I scored a 68.1 in reading. To gain acceptance into the program you have to score a 69 in reading . I have noticed that your materials explain thoroughly and clearly every subject and it is worded more like the exam I took. I also noticed that your materials are through and include things that we should look for to help us better understand what is the key words in every area, not just reading, including how to solve word problems with math, science and English & language usage. I now have a better understand of what to look for and what to expect on this up coming exam. THANK YOU!

Useless. Donâ€™t buy this. I didnâ€™t even pass the TEAS. Buy the mometrix one because it gives you tons of questions and also a lot of videos. L

This has a lot of reading and the chapters don't really go into great detail on how to solve the math problems which was my biggest issue on my first test. I do like the fact that there are 2 practice tests in the back. It gives you the answers, but I'm a hands on person and would've like to be able to know how to solve the problems from beginning to end. Overall it's better than nothing so I gave it a 3 but really it's a 2.5 to me.

Sorry but I like the KAPLAN ATI book a lot more. I enjoy how it's set up. I have seen improvement going through both books as I'm a 1993 graduate and have been en out of school a LONG time.

This book is so on point when it comes to every subject but especially reading and English. The science questions are also similar to the exam, so I recommend this study guide if you struggle with those areas.

The book was very concise, easy to understand, with ample practice questions. It covered everything needed to do well on the exam.

First, let me say that I have great respect for Anita Lo's culinary abilities. Given the right cir umstances, her recipes would be great. But this is not what I expected in cooking for one person. Recipes call for things like 2 ounces of kale, spinanch or another vegetable that comes bagged or tied in bunches. So what, then, do I do with the rest? Several of her recipes appear to be "stand alone", then she,says serve with crispy potatoes on another page. One recipe called for a 15 ounce can of beans. For just one person? The ingredient list is lengthy in many recipes and calls for things I have never heard of (on a later page) that contain even more things I never heard of. I am not a novice in the kitchen and was really hoping for just I teresting meals that might take a bit of prep but would use more average ingredients. I tried to like this cookbook as I ordered it in advance. I even perused it se eral times hoping I could change my mind. It's a shame. I had high hopes but, if possible, I am returning it. Definitely not what I wanted or expected.

Personally I need photos in a cookbook to entice me to try something that may not have the most appetizing headline. As another review mentioned, there arenâ€™t any photos just illustrations. If youâ€™re a fan of hers already or a very accomplished cook you may like this anyways, but didnâ€™t do it for me.

The recipe ingredients are scaled down but so is the thin typeface used. If only the text was as large as the endorsements and credits within the book. It's not possible for me to follow the book so as much as it pains me, I'm paying $5.99 to return the book to Amazon.

Let me start by saying, it's a lot of prep/cooking for one meal. The meals are admittedly a culinary adventure: Stir-Fried Pork Belly and Kimchee with Egg or Broiled Bluefish Muffaletta Style. Couple those factors with the unavailability of ingredients/minimal use of ingredients and the book is being returned. Perhaps better suited for an aspiring gourmet chef in a metropolitan area with access to the wide variety of required ingredients.

I wish I would have read more than one review of this book before buying it. The number of ingredients, and hard to source ingredients is totally off putting. I love to cook and try new dishes but this is not what I was expecting. People in large metro areas probably have access to more sources or markets for many of these ingredients. Judith Jones did an excellent job with her â€œPleasures of Cooking for Oneâ€. I admit I have not tried any recipes yet so perhaps my review might have edged up. I just donâ€™t want others making the same assumptions I made.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my mother who enjoys cooking and lives alone. We both spent time perusing the recipes and it is a great cookbook. They are unusual and delicious-sounding recipes that also seem very doable. There is a recipe for homemade potato gnocchi, for example, using one potato! Typically, when you think about making gnocchi or pasta it seems like a several-hour affair involving pounds of ingredients. But gnocchi made with one potato and a couple of tablespoons of other ingredients seems to be a low-commitment dinner for just one.

I loved the sound of the recipes in this book, but most of them had ingredients I didn't have (or never heard of.) I passed on keeping it and gifted it to my sister who may actually use it.

About the Author

Daniel Patterson founded San Francisco’s Michelin three-star Coi and several other Bay Area restaurants; most recently, he cofounded the acclaimed “revolutionary fast food” venture LocoL. His awards include Food & Wine’s Best New Chef and a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the West. Patterson is the author of two previous books, and his essays have appeared in The New York Times, Food & Wine, Financial Times, San Francisco Magazine, and Lucky Peach. Mandy Aftel is an internationally known artisan perfumer and award-winning author, most recently of Fragrant: The Secret Life of Scent. She has participated in many exhibitions, panels, and conferences on scent and food, and regularly collaborates with chefs and mixologists. She and her work have been featured in The New York Times, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, O,The Oprah Magazine, and Elle, on CNN, and in countless blogs. Aftel lives in Berkeley, California.

This is like no cookbook i have ever seen. It deals with cooking on a much deeper level than just a collection of recipes. To put it simply, it will help you gain a better understanding of the "why" we do or use such things (techniques, ingredients, etc.). i would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that wants to really learn how to navigate their way through a dish.

excellent guide, nuanced, sophisticated. good explanations of the way to mix flavor to create something that transcends the sum of the parts. useful descriptions of the flavor elements so you can work them as separate components, guides use of separate flavor elements in combination. really learned something. my cooking is at a whole other level. loved the recipe for chicken, saffron, tarragon, orange. made it five times already. note: doesn't necessarily need the whole ounce of saffron...great with a quarter ounce.
