I have found that I like this larger deck better than a smaller deck. The smaller (regular sized) themed poker decks that can be purchased are fun, as can the regular sized official Action deck, but I find myself preferring these larger cards. They are easier for everyone to see from across the table, and I do not see all that well anyway.So far we have had to repair a card with some glue as a corner got munched somehow, most likely from a player being mean to it. They are not as strong as the smaller cards, which is a shame.
I have used these for three game sessions now. The artwork is very nice in the face cards and all the cards are a nice large size. My only complaint is that the numbers can still be a bit hard to read across the table. I would have liked to have a large number printed in the center or at least increase the contrast og the numbers and backgrounds. Overall, good product.
An excellent product, cards are made from heavy card stock. My gaming group just loves them, really a great and creative way to make initiative random! Perfect!
The only critic on this product is that only the figure cards have pictures (awsome by the way) and the number cards are regular, showing the "suits'
The art on this deck is lovely, but in the end, it's terribly overpriced for what you get. I should have bought the Power Cards :-)
While not strictly necessary to play Savage Worlds (you can use any standard card deck for the same purpose), I found this deck to be very well done. The cards are oversized being roughly twice the size of a normal deck. The visual layout is clean and easily read from the other side of our rather large gaming table. The art on the face cards is colorful and well executed with a slightly pulp/comic feel. The use of different genres for the face card characters is inspired and really helps distinguish the different suits even more. Due to the oversized nature of the cards, shuffling can be slightly more difficult than a standard deck but I think the good looking art and the ease of reading the cards from a distance make up for this. I wouldn't use them to play poker, but for their use in Savage Worlds as initiative counters these cards are ideal.
I understand not wanting to purchase this particular deck as it is not absolutely necessary to run the game. Having ran Savage Worlds for the past two years, I must say that having these as opposed to a regular poker deck makes a difference to me as they're larger and a bit more visible across the length of a large dining room table. I'm not sure if that's the reason they were originally marketed but that's why they're at every one of my SW games.
I purchased this deck and the Savage Worlds Explorers Edition (S2P10010) at the same time, in preparation to play in a friend's campaign. Being unfamiliar with the SW system, I was under the impression that this specific deck was required for game play, possibly having text and rules for game use. I was wrong, through no fault of the cards or SW, which is a great system. They are pretty to look at, with interesting character illustrations ,but their large size makes them a bit hard to shuffle and deal. As much as I enjoy supporting the game industry with my dollar, in hindsight, I could have just bought a deck of dollar-store playing cards and been fine. I ended up giving them to my GM anyways, and he was happy, so, there you go.
