This book brings to light things that are only seen by those who aren't naturally sheep. If you are a sheep, don't read this book, it will send you to your "Safe Place" for months. If you are tired of being persecuted for crimes committed by people 150 years ago, you'll like this book.

Before buying I hesitated, thinking that it might be crackpot. Turns out it's anything but. The book's claims are thoroughly footnoted, and I was often so shocked by them that I actually looked up the footnotes to verify their truthfulness. I've consistently found that these "...For Dummies" books are formulaic but helpful and well done. I got into real estate a bit many years ago but have forgotten a lot. I was confident that this book would be a good choice for bringing me up to speed again, and I was not disappointed. There are many good real estate books on the market which readers might subsequently consider if choosing to seek more depth and detail, but, if one simply wants to ask--and answer--the question, "Could real estate investing be for me?" this book provides a helpful--and most importantly--honest set of answers. The authors aren't trying to sell the reader anything. No schemes here, just the facts.

I expected the book to be light and contain mostly common sense advice. 1/4 into it, I realized it's more in-depth and does contain lots of good info.

The advice in the book seems somewhat basic but that's the premise of "....for dummies" series. I enjoyed reading the book and learning/refreshing several great points about investing in real-estate.If I could share one thing with someone taking an interest in this book, it's this... keep your expectations in check and you will really have a great handy guide of do's and don't's when you do decide to jump in the market as an investor. By the end of this book, you will definitely NOT be a savvy real-estate investor but it will have given you several pathways that you can start pursuing. It's up to you to decide which one suits you. Good luck!

This book gives a great overview for beginners. It contains tons of advice and points you to the right resources to learn more about the real estate market conditions in a particular geographic area. By following Tyson's advice, you could avoid costly mistakes. Overall, great buy.

not a very good for dummies book. concentrates more on the technical stuff of being an investor and not on what it essentially takes to be an investor, and what difficulties the one who is going to get into the real estate investment bussiness in going to meet. doesn't clarify enough the challenges in being an investor in terms of what it takes personally and emotionaly. a good book about real estate investing but not a for dummies one.

This book is very informative. Each section outlines a thorough process of how to purchase real estate. You can either read this book from cover to cover or use it as a reference guide.I bought this book months ago, made my first investment property purchase and still reference the book for guidance.Overall I'm happy with the purchase!

This book is crammed with lots of helpful information. It has so much information. I find that sometimes I feel the need to reread some sections to fully grasp all the info that it is being given.

I really enjoyed this book and so did my son. I am a fan of Coltrane's music and my 5 year old son gets to listen to it as well. Now he gets a chance to hear the story of one of the musicians mom and dad listen's too often.

Before John Was a Jazz Giant is a cute children's book about a musician named John Coltrane. The illustrations contain vivid blues, reds, and swirls that make the reader feel the music. The story tells all about the sounds of John's childhood and how they inspired him to write music. I really like how the author connected common household sounds such as hambones knocking in pots or the birds warbling to sounds of music. When he picked up the horn he flowed with sounds he was familiar with and created new songs. In the end we find out John Coltrane was all ears before he was a musician. I recommend this book for at home as well as in the classroom.

Carole Boston Weatherford has written a few children's books on jazz topics, and this one's my favorite so far. I love the repeated title, which works great as a refrain, and found it fascinating to hear Coltrane's childhood through his own ears. The text is the proper length and engaging enough for reading aloud to younger children, and the circle motif in the illustrations both fit well with saxophone keys and musical notes and offer much for the eye to explore.My only disappointment was that the end felt anticlimactic, partly because there is not much of a story arc, and partly because it felt obvious. However, the sensory richness of text and illustration still make this a jazz picture book I'd recommend.

When John Coltrane was a boy and way before he became famous he heard musical sounds coming from his own house. He listened to "hambones knocking in Grandma's pots, Daddy strumming the ukelele, and Mama cranking the phonograph." These weren't jazz sounds, but may well have been the kinds of sounds that John later tuned into those tunes that made him a jazz giant. Sounds whirled around him and he listened."Before John was a jazz giant,he heard big bands on the radioand a saxophone's soulful solo,blue notes crooning his name."Sean Qualls's soulful and thoughtful artwork, especially the wide-eyed depiction of Coltrane as a boy, brings a lot to the poetic tale. In the back, under the Author's Note, there is a clear, concise mini biography of John Coltrane, a revolutionary jazz composer and saxophonist. There are additional musical and book recommendations. A combination lesson of `listen and learn' after reading this book would be a fun classroom activity!

This is a wonderful book. Could have been called The Complete Book Of Spinning, had the namers a pedantic turn of phrase.This is a big book, that can be read from front to back, or sampled, as one prefers. While very readable, this book has technical sections that will not appeal to all spinners, but they exist to help those who need this information. So buy the book with the understanding that while it's almost all here, you don't have to embrace any more of it than you want to.I bought this book for any information that will help me in building wheels. There are a few chapters on the wheels themselves that will really help a builder, or spinner, understand the why's of different designs. It was surprising to come across a reference to Super Quench, a cutting edge quench for mild steel, but it does belong here. It was also surprising to see little information on band drives, even if the author doesn't prefer them.Amos has obviously offended some readers with comments on double peddle wheels. Yet he later mentions that with enough drag the Scotch tension can get hard to push. Hello?If there are a few phrases in the whole book in which Amos let's go a few of his preferences, all the better. This book is an important link with the craft that will do a lot to keep spinning alive. For all that it's fun to read.Quick update. Since I wrote this review, craft spinning wheels have moved on through several major redesign steps. This book is more about traditional wheels, not about craft wheels. Still useful, but the new gear is not represented here.

I began spinning about 40 years ago, and I remember how hard it was to find reliable technical information about tools and procedures. When this book came out, it filled a badly-needed void. There are many good introductions to hand spinning in print now, but nothing in print or out of print compares with this book. For serious hand spinners, this is an essential reference.

An amazing plethora of knowledge! Very detailed and you can get a bit lost in it all but it's an amazing book to have and should be in every hand spinners library.

There is so much information in this book. And it is written so you can decide for yourself how deeply you want to investigate a subject but still have a good knowledge of the subject.

This is the first book to buy if you are new to spinning. Not a technical manual, but a spinner's own notes. Written in a colloquial styie, it makes good reading.

I completely disagree with 'belacane "the cashmere cat"'. This book is just unbelievable detailed with all kinds of interesting info. He even tells you how to make the soap that you wash your wool with (if you are so inclined). After having read so many reviews that said he was opinionated, well the cover of the book has the word OPINION on it, and the introduction he admits he can at times be hard headed after years and years of his way working. However the how-to's are wonderful!I was told by a local sheep farm that you can place the cleaned wool in the washing machine on the spin cycle (no agitation) and you can dry the wool fast this way. Well he even mentions it in the book and basically says 'research it and try at your own discretion' so while he clearly would never do it, he didn't even have to mention it, but he did because it's something other people may have success with.I find him a delight to read, there is no other single book with all this wonderful information in it. You can tell Alden loves his craft. I am very much enjoying reading it and I am about 40 pages in.

This is now a collectable since Alden Amos has passed on. It's a very interesting book. If you're a beginner get it anyway because you'll begin to understand as time goes on and it will be a very valuable book for future learning.
