Another Lost Breed MC Book. Aiden and Cheryl are great together. I would have liked a better HEA. Like an engagement or wedding. Even a little more about Cheryl meeting the rest of the club that night. Still loved the story and the series. Can’t wait to read Owen next.

Aiden finally found what he had been missing but sure had a mountain to climb to get Cheryl's frame of mind straightened out. Loved these two together and really enjoyed their story.

Oh i like me some bossy alpha Aiden! With just a hint of danger and a whole lot of swag! Cheryl was well written and a sweet match for Aiden.

A story of two people who meet by accident, at an accident that Cheryl had that Aiden saw. They both have their own demons to work on there are a lot of twists & turns that make a really Great Story. Ail Parker & Weston Parker did a really good book.

Cheryl was in a bad relationship with Vince. Can't understand why she stayed for so long. Do to a fender bender, her meeting Aiden her life changed for the better. As the story unfolds changes are made to their lives. I enjoyed their story.

aiden left Chicago needing to start over.. He found himself in NYC with the Lost Breed but he wanted more.. One chance encounter with Cheryl and she was what he wanted.. Cheryl had a boyfriend though, a jerk of a boyfriend and just moved to NYC. Everything she wanted Vince was giving her except love. Can Aiden show her she is worth so much more?I was really enjoying this book and it just ended.

I acquired the book in ebook form for academic purposes. However, while the content is very good the format of the ebook is not conducive to academic work. There are no page numbers, so creating citations is next to impossible in this format.

The previous reviews entitled "What a Shame" and "Rebellion is not Violence" harbor ill will that reveal much about the reviewers and nothing about the author nor the book. First, I cannot imagine who better to comment on the book and the author, Dr. Abou El Fadl, than his graduate students, who have obviously committed their time and intellectual energy into studying his work at a depth that few others can. By defending their teacher, they honor their teacher, and this says nothing of whether or not the book can stand on its own merits. Without question, the book stands on its own merits, or it would not have been published by Cambridge University Press, nor won the accolades of so many reviewers that it has. I don't understand why someone would be critical of a professor's students defending their professor or his work, unless that person harbored some kind of ill will towards the students or the professor.As to the other review, the reviewer embarrassingly reveals the fact that he has not even read the book in the comments that he makes. Among the most obvious guffaws are his comments that "the work is exclusively focused on Salafi thought," and that it "ignores the Shi'ite point of view." Ali must have been reading a different book or skipped past most of the chapters, because the book does neither. Ali claims that it is historically inaccurate that Islamic law does not call for the killing or destruction of rebels. If he had actually read the book, and understood what he was reading, he would have learned he was wrong in this statement. Ali's assertions that the author misunderstood what he was doing, was neglectful, confused or oversimplifying are funny, and the examples he provides as evidence are just as funny, not to mention flimsy, ahistorical and superficial. The punchline of the book being a "good start, but it is hardly a reference on rebellion and violence in Islamic law," is particularly comical when one considers the all-star league of a scholar such as Dr. Abou El Fadl and his sterling record of publications and scholarship. In contrast, considering the quality of this reviewer's comments, it is like someone from Little Leagues trying to tell the Player of the Year how to play ball.

...I must admit that I approached this book with the recent events that led to the September 11 attacks in mind. I was hoping that the book will provide us readers with an understanding as to why Muslims resort to violence.Understandably, the book did not satisfy that given that it was written prior to the events abovementioned. So if you are like me, looking for some answers about Muslims and violence as played out recently; I am afraid the book is not for you.This is a book for the academic community and it is a great contribution in that regard. Just like the author said in the introduction, there is not enough literature on the subject (as secondary works), although it appears from the sources cited in the book that Muslims have given great concideration to the topic.The value of the book is in its role in connecting Islamic politics (the caliphate) and jurisprudence (fiqh). The book also succeeded in unearthing the many Arabic resources that have dealt with the topic of violence and rebellion in Islam. But in doing so, I believe the author, in his attempt to chart new territory, confused many concepts and boxed together elements that ought not be put in the same basket. Here are just some of the problems that did not help in grasping the themes or bridge them with the primary sources:1. The long footnotes: the author uses very long footnotes wherein he engages in stating opinions that require more analysis and explanations. Some of the footnotes should not have been there at all, other footnotes should have been placed in the body. Examples: pp. 8, 9, 17, 26, 36, 53, 69, 83, 88, 107, 139, 239, 285, 326.In other other situations where a footnote is need, the author simply avoids referencing some claims and generalizations that he makes about key concepts. A key example for instance is his definition of rebellion and his introduction of the Arabic concepts baghy and muhaarib... he defines them and states the legal rule rearding such acts, but he neglected to footnote his source if there were any... (see pp. 32)lastly, some time the author states an opinion, and places a footnote in support of it, upon checking the source, I failed on many occasions to see the relationship between the though/theory and the sources indicated in the footnote. They are simply mistakes, or totally mis-understood by the author.2. factual inconsistencies: while stating the rule concerning the rebels and the various groups, he argued that Islamic law does not call for the killing or destructionof rebels. This is historically incorrect. The author is either attempting to soften Islamic law on rebellion or is oversimplifying the legal rules.3. Method and approach: the author optd to discuss the theme in a timeline framework. That approach caused him (intentionally or not) to overlook many instances of rebellion in islamic history. The topic would have been better served if the author presented real cases of rebellion and political violence instead of a timeline of the concept.4. Like many books on Islamic law, this book also ignores the Shi`ite point of view. The work is exclusively focused on Salafi thought. Isma`ilis and Zaydis and other denominations were briefly mentioned. However the major concept of khuruj was ignored or played down despite its centrality in Shi`i theology and jurisprudence. Despite that most of the resources are from Sunni works, the author goes further to reserve on full chapter for the Sunni position. Even the books history written by Sunni historians referred to khuruj as a form of rebellion, but the author inexplicbly chose even not to discuss the case of Hussein and his murder that was sanctioned by the Sunni establishment and Caliphate.In short, this is good start, but it is hardly a reference on rebellion and violence in Islamic law...

the ISBN number you might be looking for is 978-1-4567-6209-6. This book is exactly the same with respect to title and appearance and description as the book that is required for an English class. But it is not the correct book if you are taking the class I took. The book for the class was actually cheaper at the University bookstore and it came with the useless abridged version they are hawking here. The college text runs 1138 pages. The useless abridged copy (and I can't think of any reason for producing it in this manner other than to make people buy this book by mistake and then buy the book required for class, otherwise they might have not TITLED IT EXACTLY THE SAME) contains 286 pages with an ISBN number 978-1-4567-6483-0 (for student version of ripoff book) and an ISBN number 978-1-4567-6513-1 (for instructor version of ripoff book). Why a publisher would risk the ire of students learning how to write agumentative essays is absolutely perplexing. But there you are. I submit it was a stupid person in marketing.

This is NOT the full book. It's missing all the short stories among other things and is useless for my class. Had to drive straight to my campus book store and pay(again) for a usable copy in time for class. Where can I report this as a faulty product that needs fixed?

Do not buy this book, it does not include the entire textbook. It only contains the first six chapters. Don't waste your money. I am still waiting on Amazon to stand behind their product!

Do not buy the kindle version! I went to do my assignments for this week and the last 100 or so pages are missing and/or not correct. I couldn't figure out what was wrong or why I couldn't search for the topics so I came here and saw the other recent reviews (they were not there when I bought the book). So now I am worried about getting a 0 on them. Not cool!ETA This turned out to be some truncated version- and that is what it is sold as HOWEVER it is listed as a full size version of the book. It is not. So don't buy this for your class unless your teacher specifically says that is what they are using.Amazon gave me a refund for the kindle version but trying to find a paper version proved to be difficult mid semester.

I need this book for my English class and out of all the listings this one was the cheaper option, about twenty dollars less, luckily I got the full book, unlike a few others, but the down side is that about two chapters worth of pages have been cut in half. An error during printing or something but two whole chapters have half of each page gone and the tops are stuck together so I can't even open the pages to see those chapters, horrible. Said nothing of this in the details. Don't trust the seller.

THIS IS NOT THE COPY OF THE BOOK THAT IS USED IN MOST COLLEGE CLASSES. IT IS MISSING OVER HALF OF THE BOOK AND DOESN'T CONTAIN MOST OF THE SAMPLE READING. DO NOT BUY.

Unlike a lot of the other reviewers, I actually received the correct copy of the book (the 1200 page one, not the brief guide) But it has pages missing! It's horrible that with the number of poor reviews, Amazon continues to sell this! The publishers and authors should be embarrassed!

Complete fraud. Sellers should be ashamed for this blatant ripoff of college students. Missing over 100 pages and completely useless for my ENG course.

I love British Navy novels.The book/series starts out where the hero is caught having sex with his sister. . . ok, "half" sister.I don't care what the norms were at the time.I stopped reading. Deposited the book in the trash and am deciding what series I shall instead read next.

Dewey Lambdin will always come in second to Patrick O'Brian but having said that, he has written an excellent series of naval novels about the British Royal Navy during the 18th Century. My few quibbles are his overly extended passages about sail handling and boat handling which often go on for several pages. After the third or fourth time, I get the point: he knows the details of the theory and mechanics of sail handling 18th Century sailing vessels. I now simply scan forward until he has finished showing off and resumes the story line. The other annoying issue (at least for me) are his sexual interludes. I have no problem with Alan Lewrie getting involved with grass widows, whores, adventuresses and various morts but he drifts into pornography much too often for my tastes. If I were his editor I would have remove much of the repetitive material and wound up with a book 1/3 shorter...about 200 pages instead of 300 and told him to beef up the story line. Having said all that, I enjoy the story line very much and expanding it at the expense of the excessively graphic sex and the endless descriptionsd of sail handling would have earned him the 5th star in this review.

The naval battleship genre is a special type of men's adventure, pretty much invented, for me, by Patrick O'brien. You either love them or hate them. Its easy to hate them because the quantity of unfamiliar naval terminolody is great and the characters are very typical one dimensional. For some reason, almost all adventure written about this period has one dimensional characters, almost as if it would not ring true unless they were portrayed this way.The main character is fun-loving and fun to follow. The book is a good read and a great introduction to the series.Its odd to write a review like this, but the summary really is:If you like this type of book, you will like this book.Not incredibly helpful, no?

I have to say that Dewey Lambdin is an amazing story teller. If you don't believe me, try it out for yourself. This is inexpensive entertainment. So much happens to the main character in this book that we get a really good picture of who Alan Lewrie is in this premier of the series which feels more like three fast paced books rather than one. Lambdin manages to make even the short pieces of the backstory action oriented. I read a number of the nautical writers and Lambdin is one of my two favorites. I empathized with Lewrie throughout the book even though he's somewhat of a horrific rogue in the beginning. No matter how much of a rogue he is, you pull for him. You want him to win and get his head on straight and his life in order but he'll be needing to get his life in order for quite some time. I doubt he'll ever succeed but I suspect it will be an interesting uphill battle all the way.

This is a highly addictive series of novels. After "The Kings Coat" I quickly went straight through the 16 (and counting) other novels. This is not Hornblower and it is not Alexander Kent's "Bolitho". It is a gritty, human, down-and-dirty look at the Royal Navy, English society and the British Empire in the late 17 to early 1800's. Mr Lambdin has done massive amounts of historical research in the writing of these novels. His knowledge and use of naval terminology, sailing minutia, common slang, foreign languages, cultural references, music, etc is unbelievable. Reading Mr. Lambin's tales about the "life" of Alan Lewrie had me reaching for the laptop to look something up and do more research time after time. Each book has an afterword which places the volume in it's historical setting relative to the actual events of the time. Truly a magnificently done period piece series.

I've read many of the Napoleonic era Royal navy series out there all the way back to Forester. This one to me is unlike the others in that the main character is a bit of a rogue. That may change as I am only on the second book but it adds flavor. A hint of Flashman (George MacDonald Fraser) perhaps but not in the area of courage. I have to say I'm enjoying the series.

I'm looking forward to reading more installments. The naval battle sequences were exceptional. The details of life at sea in tbe Emperial Navy ring true. I'll at least read the next in the series it does make you wonder how the British ruled the seas with a command structure built on social status vs merit.

I bought this book because it looked interesting, and the Kindle edition was being offered for a very good price. Now I am hooked!! I have read the first 6 books in just a couple of weeks. Alan Lewrie is a very intersting character: part Horatio Hornblower, part James Bond, part Forrest Gump, and part Hugh Hefner. The series has all of the usual historical fiction staples from this era: the nautical terms and speech, the battles, the storms, the hardships, the famous people (Nelson, Hood, Rodney, Napolean, etc). UNLIKE the usual Hornblower or Bolitho main character, we have the good-for-nothing, womanizing, bastard son Lewrie. Well, not good for NOTHING. He discovers, to his own amazement, that he IS good at being a naval officer. He's also good at getting himself in trouble by thinking below his belt. If you like historical fiction from the grand age of sail, and don't mind some torrid sex scenes mixed in, then you will enjoy the Alan Lewrie series. Start with the King's Coat and dive right in!!

Shadow of Night follows on the heels of A Discovery of Witches. In some ways Shadow of Night is the better book–the text flows more smoothly, not every single character is cranky all the time, and the pacing has improved. However, it has a few flaws of its own.First, the time-walking; I have a few problems with how this was carried out. For instance, the historical Matthew conveniently vanishes with future Matthew visiting. I can see how this was the only way Harkness could have the story she wanted, but it’s such a bald-faced deus ex machina. Matthew of course knows the famous historical figures of the time, including queens and emperors, which seems awfully stupid for a creature whose very existence relies on everyone else not noticing that he isn’t aging. Matthew and Diana also seem to have picked a very unstable and dangerous time to visit; I never really figured out why they thought that was a good idea. They’re supposed to not make changes to the past, but how could they possibly not when they’re dealing with such powerful people? And yet of course they don’t end up changing too much despite everything they’re doing that the time-appropriate Matthew wouldn’t have. There’s also the inevitable historical trope of the headstrong woman vs. the overprotective man in her life.Diana is still a Mary Sue, right down to taking in a street urchin on a whim who then becomes a treasured member of the family. The unique familiar. The need for a highly unusual set of teachers. The jealousy or adoration that everyone feels for her. (Yes, even the relevant emperor becomes besotted with Diana. Don’t tell me you’re surprised.) She’s also still ridiculously easy for people to manipulate; she does a lot of stupid stuff–but of course since she’s a Mary Sue, these things don’t come back to haunt her.What I really want to know is how on earth Matthew-from-the-future and Diana could possibly expect historical Matthew to not notice (after modern Matthew goes back to the future) that he’s been out of commission for ages. I don’t care how much his friends are determined to shield him from that knowledge, it’s going to be really hard to avoid people, say, asking him where his wife is, given that they got to know everyone. It just doesn’t add up. Again, it’s a hand-waved deus ex machina.

After reading the first book 7 years ago I eagerly looked forward to the continuation of Diana and Matthew’s love story. I bought the second book paying the hardcover price as soon as it was available. Over the years I tried twice to read Shadow of Night. I am happy to report that I finally accomplished my goal. My overall impression is mixed. There were some interesting elements that I liked about the ambiance of the Elizabethan era but I felt the plot got lost in the minutiae. I felt that the author must have rushed the second book to get it published. The plot wasn’t as well thought out and some of the twists were very confusing. I am going to take a break from this series before deciding if I will read the third book. All in all I’m very happy that I finally completed my mission of finishing this book. I only wish that it had been a better investment.

The Jungle Cruise has always been corny, but that's the beauty of it, and the latest book in the Disney Parks Presents series perfectly taps into that corny energy. The book is cute on its own, but the true magic lies on the CD that's included. It's packed with puns and corny jokes that aren't included in the book, most of them are told as the reader "loads/unloads" from the boat at the beginning and end of the book, but there's a few surprises in the story, too! Also, be on the lookout for the native duck paddling among the "wild" animals.

It's a cute read and very true to the ride. We love the CD that goes with it. Also, true to the ride, try to find all the mallard ducks throughout the cruise. ;)

We love the the Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland, so it’s no surprise we love this book. Funny jokes, beautiful illustrations. We love the CD, the jungle noises and the sound of the boats engine really makes you think that you’re taking a trip down the Amazon. I hope they make Splash Mountain or Tiki Room next! Thanks for another great addition.

RAUN K. KAUFMAN is the Director of Global Education for the Autism Treatment Center of America. As the key spokesperson for ATCA and the Son-Rise Program, he conducts lectures and seminars worldwide and has worked with families and professionals for over 15 years. Kaufman and his work have been covered on NPR, BBC, Fox News, and People Magazine, among other outlets. He co-hosts the radio show Raun & Kristin: Bringing Hope Into Your Home on Autism Approved Radio and is currently serving as the Director of Global Education for the Autism Treatment Center of America. I've taken three Son-Rise courses at the Autism Treatment Institute of America in Sheffield, MA, and I can say that if the lessons are applied as they are taught (which includes a good long look at your own heart in this process of bringing up a child with ASD), it may be the most effective intervention out there. Over time, you will likely see an improvement in the social and communication aspects of your autistic child. However, you do have to bring some time, energy, love, and enthusiasm to the process for it to have an effect.I've also received training in Verbal Behavior (a type of ABA) and Relationship Development Intervention (RDI), and we have done a number of other interventions with our child. I can say from experience, that even though it is my favorite intervention, Son-Rise is not the ONLY good intervention out there. Almost EVERY intervention is helpful when done correctly and with the right mindset. Bottom line is if you spend a lot of time playing with a child with love in your heart and without feeling impatient, critical, nervous, or super pushy, you will probably help them. That is the most important thing you can bring to your child, no matter what intervention you choose.People in the autism world love to judge each others' interventions as ineffective for some reason, and the Son-Rise team is no exception to this industry-wide flaw. I took off one star for this bias. There was a lot of criticism specifically regarding ABA. I'm assuming it's because the Kaufmans were introduced to ABA at a time when Lovaas was doing things like administering punitive electric shocks and tying people to chairs. I understand why they would hate that, but come on, it's 40-50 years later now and that doesn't happen anymore. The newer style of ABA is reward-based and can be very effective for shaping behavior when done by a person with a good mindset and some flexibility. Plus there are a lot of behavioral principles both interventions have in common.This practice of presenting a divided front among intervention providers leads to confusion among parents as to which intervention to choose. As for our family, we have tried almost every intervention out there- ABA, Son-Rise, Floortime, RDI, speech therapy, occupational therapy, special education, and I can say that EVERY intervention has been helpful for our child when done by someone with a loving and flexible heart for children. That's the most important part- the heart of the person doing the therapy, not the intervention itself. The person needs to like to play with children, have integrity, and have the right mindset. If they have those things, you're 90% there. The intervention choice is about 10% of the equation. Seriously. Good attitude gets good results, negative attitude gets negative results.Back to Son-Rise- this is my favorite intervention, for two reasons- 1 it's effective, and 2. it empowering and gets your head and heart into the right place. What do I dislike about Son-Rise? It takes time, but they all do, I guess, lol. My head is isn't always in the right place all the time after all, but that's ok. I'm a work in progress, like my son. How do I know Son-Rise is effective? Because my son responded positively and improved his communication, eye contact, and ability to be around people without losing it. There were immediate results, such as increased eye contact and a happy play experience, and also results down the road, such as better communication and increased tolerance of change and stimuli.Note regarding the word "cure". The Kaufmans like this word because they are laypeople. The medical community hates the "cure" word because it is nearly impossible to quantify. This is why medicine hardly ever uses the word "cure". For example, when you get better from say, a cold, doctors never say "cured", but "better". So to all you medical people, when the Kaufmans say "cure", just think "better" or "we can't detect it any more". Don't get tied up in a pretzel over it. Their son is better now. You can't detect the autism any more, so they of course, say he's cured. However, Raun is an anomaly. Most people who do this intervention or any other, are still autistic afterward. Most do not get to the point of no symptoms like Raun Kaufman did. But over time, most people do improve- some marginally, some dramatically. You just have to get some good people and try for a long time.

For whatever the son-rise people may be accused of I'll tell you that these techniques were what helped me fix my relationship with my son. As an HFA child, my son wasn't diagnosed until he was 5 years old. Applying the parenting that helped us raise a well adjusted, kind, responsible neurotypical child were not worrying. Then there was the fateful visit with a pediatric neuropsychologist. "Your son is autistic." Four words changed everything.I tried to fill my head with as much knowledge as I could. I had never had a sibling, friend, or even acquaintance within autism. My research turned up this gem. Within ONE WEEK of applying these techniques my relationship with my son went from one fraught with frustration, arguing, and yelling where my son wouldn't ever say "I'm sorry" or "I love you" or ever hug me or ever be happy to see me to one where he and I have boatloads of healthy interactions, fun, playing, building legos, playing games, talking, understanding each other, getting along, and yes--getting giant hugs and even "dad--i love you"s in time... Walking through the door went from him running away from me to one where either he looks at me with a "hi, dad!" or sometimes a super tight hug. Of course there are still days where I'm greeted with a growl or grunt--and now I understand how perfectly fine that is and what it really is.There are still plenty of hard days. But I will forever be grateful to the Kaufmans for their work. Let the haters hate. Let them say they are cultish or that it's solely based on empirical evidence. For all I know, that is totally true. But this book has certainly done more for my relationship with my son than any other therapy. That is NOT a condemnation of other therapies--his OT is an angel who got him to LOVE water instead of hate it--his child therapist was super helpful with healthier discipline strategies--but for me to UNDERSTAND him and communicate with him there was no greater resource. Because the wake up call was that the only person who had to change was ME. So many helpful, practical, and logical techniques that have changed or household.-Andrew Bilbrey

This book answered my questions when my son started out with the ABA. At the time, I went through with the ABA even when I felt absolutely unease with the sessions. After reading this book, I understand the autism world and why my child acting that way much more. I started to implement things that I learned from the book right away and started to see a lot more improvement in him. I finally decided to go to join the Son-Rise startup program and happy to report that after 5 months into the Son-Rise playtime at home for about 15 hours per week without ABA, he has been improving incredibly and he is a much happier child.

This book takes a very one sided approach to handling autistic children. There is a lot of focus on the history of the Son-Rise program which was started by the author's parents, which makes me leery. I also researched the company and their program is very expensive so that also makes me suspicious. I read this book though and got a few ideas of things to try, but I am not running off to New England to the tune of $20K to get lessons from these experts. SO if you are a desperate parent (like me) read the book to maybe help yourself learn a few things to help you in your situation.
