Great resource for teaching.I just wish it had the answers to all of the problems and a digital copy.

I am a blogger, writing articles for VBA, C# and other interesting programming languages. I was provided with an online version of the book from SpringerThe book provides you with 174 exercises, which can make you an advanced beginner (if this term exists) in Python. The exercises are well-structured indeed, taking into account anything from the basics of the language (printing, units, conditionals, loops and functions) to some more advanced structures as dictionaries, lists and working with files. The "more advanced" structures are present twice, thus you have two levels of exercises for them. The exercises are well-selected indeed. I liked them and I enjoyed solving (or looking at their solutions) them.Let's state the things I did not like:1. No code provided in electronic form. The code is written explicitly in the book. (I will not comment on this one, but I consider it a major minus);2. In the online version, the quality was somehow rather low, in some of the code I should have looked twice to see whether it is an underscore or a full stop;3. I wish the author has spent a few pages for instructions how to install a Python IDE. (but this is a small minus, after all this is a Workbook).Now, let's state the things I liked:1. Really good selection of tasks;2. The solution is explained well, with a lot of comments;3. A man can learn a lot from it, if he/she has another book for Python or follows a course, explaining how the language works.

I'm a proficient SAS programmer retooling for the cloud. I bought this book because I thought it would provide some good practice and some of the basics to get me going quickly. However, despite the subtitle of the book, there is no "brief introduction." The book is only exercises. That could still be fine if the solutions provide enough examples of syntax. However, when I went to look for the solution to the exercise I choose, I couldn't find it. In fact, the book contains solutions for only a subset of the exercises. How useful is that? If you are an experienced programmer looking for the basics of Python and exercises to get you moving fast, this book is not for you. I probably will use it, but not in the way I had hoped and I need to look for another book now to satisfy my needs.

This is an excellent exercise book for Python learner. The exercises are usually basic enough so beginner can learn concepts and have enough practice to remember them. I use it for my son's study of Python.So far, I have not found any other book that offers so many programming exercises, which is a surprise. There are many books on how to learn Python, but they don't provide so many exercises. So in this sense, this book is fairly unique and useful, hence 5 star rating.

I hope the author will take some time and write all solutions, maybe in a Jupyter notebook and place it somewhere on github. I would have given you 5 stars. Please reconsider this.

This was no big deal for me because I couldn’t read the Chinese reference material anyway, but if you read Chinese, you might opt for the hardcopy of the book.I learned the Yang Style short and long forms several years ago, and bought this book to provide some background and technical guidance. I found the book to be interesting and informative, and would recommend it—particularly if you’ve learned the Yang Style (but one may find the early chapters interesting even if one hasn’t.) The author uses a number of entertaining and educational stories and the book is readable and insightful for students of all levels.

I already had some knowledge of the history and practice of tai chi chuan and still found book a little confusing at first. It makes sense after review and practice. Also, must use DVD. Dr Yang is a grandmaster, he is a purist, and this book is very good, but it is not for the casual learner of tai chi or the person who wants quick and simple explanation. I found the guide on Chinese pronunciation helpful for learning the Chinese names of different forms, I find myself rereading chapters & gaining greater insight as my own practice of tai chi improves. I am a female, 67 yrs old and currently using Dr Yang's 37 form DVD. Tai chi has changed my life in ways I never imagined.

Excellent book for beginner and advanced practitioners. I have studied and taught many forms of Chi-Gong spanning some 40 yrs. and have found the internal description of the workings of Chi in the body most impelling. One must have a good Yang instructor, however this book is very easy to follow the movements of his form, by Yang Jwing-Ming.

I have been in the martial arts(karate), for years and have not had a more difficult workout in my life. It takes months just to build enough muscles in your legs to withstand the postures and do the form. Something was always missing in Karate but the Qi aspect in Chinese martial arts is fully explained and enlightening as well as the Yin an Yang principles.The form takes 3 years to learn correctly and 3 more to begin to understand the Yin and Qi through proper breathing while doing the form. Highly recommended if you want to go far beyond mere health benefits and into the self defense aspect. It is not for the faint of heart as it demands great patience and perseverance to master...ten years to be exact....maybe longer if you do just the video and book.

This book is very informative, for those whishing to study Tai Chi Chuan. the DVD, for this book, would also be a great aid in the study of Tai Chi Chaun . But as long time student of the martial arts, it is also a good Idea to seek out a good teacher, and find some one to train with. This book and its DVD is a good start.

Dr. Jwing-Ming Yang is my favorite! Dr. Yang provides the most relevant, detailed information and instruction on Tai Chi Chuan. A must read for all who are interested in the subject by a top practitioner.

This is a veritable treasure chest of knowledge of the Yang style long form written by one of the most respected old style masters explained in a clear manner. One really needs to purchase one of the DVDs to learn the form if you are doing it alone with no access to a master. The Yang Tai Chi for Beginnners by Dr Yang covers the form nicely, but one specifically made for this book has a lot of valuable additional material. You can't go wrong with both.

Perfect Tai Chi Chuan book. It's a written journey from beginning to end, and on top of that always extremely useful, informative, well-thought. TJ Klune is an amazing writer, although with the world in such a mess it's nice to leave the seriousness behind for just a little while and read books like The Lightning Struck Heart, Tell me it's real, The queen and the Homo Jock King and my personal favorite How to be a Normal Person, they make me laugh, cry (in a good way) and smile, so with that being said it takes me a while to read his books that I know will give me a headache. I'm not good with angst and sadness but TJ's writing is so good that I have no choice but to read his books like Into this River I Drown, Bear Otter and the Kid (just an over abundance of angst), and the many others that have caused my heart to hurt and now Murmuration.I was once again amazed at TJ's skill as a writer and while I had my mind set as to how I wanted this story to go he takes it so much further than my imagination can possibly go. I won't give the story away so I'll only say if you've ever had the pleasure of reading any of his other stories you will not be disappointed in this book. It's deep,dark, beautiful and as always very thought provoking. I had in my head this books ending and he did not let me down.

I typically only read romances, and Murmuration is not a romance in the typical sense, but it is about a romance. One that shouldn’t exist but does. One that’s determined to survive at any cost.I picked up this book solely for the writing. I have a mad crush on T.J. Klune, and his writing style fascinates me. I didn’t even bother with the blurb; I rarely do anyway. But, this story is out there so you may want to check it out first. Think: Pleasantville meets The Twilight Zone.The relationship between the two H’s is swoony and slow burning. I’m not usually a fan of slow burn, but it works for me here, and it’s vital to the plot. But because of this, I was able to put it down. I even read several books simultaneously. Even so, I loved it. It’s not a book you inhale; it’s a book you savor. It unfolds slowly, and I don’t think you can fully appreciate it until you’ve experienced it in its entirety.Aside from the writing style, Murmuration is nothing like Wolfsong. If that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here. But if, like me, you’re obsessed with Klune, here ya go.

It's been a long time since I read a book that kept me so emotional and guessing right up until the very end. I recommend reading with a friend or two (or six) so you have someone to theorize and fret with--because I think you'll need it. Murmuration is beautiful and ugly, lush and harsh-- full of sweet romanticism and acerbic grittiness. This isn't my usual read. This isn't a book you read, it's a book you experience. Tj Klune, you knocked my socks off, and I need a week to recover. *Of note, I also listened to the audio version and its narration is excellent.

Ill be honest, I purchase all of TJ’s books, but I don’t read them rIght away. Why? Because I need to always prepare my brain for his writers voice, pace, and the uniqueness that is his brain. Where/ how does he come up with all these characters? This one has been sitting on my TJ folder for a bit, I was afraid to even start it because I knew it would be a mind f*&@. I don’t know if I can come up with the words to describe this book. I am still here trying to process what I just read. It’s a story about love but it’s so much more. It goes to a level that I don’t think I have seen written. I love to re-read books, but I don’t think I will be able to read this one until probably next year. I feel slightly changed, the thought provoking possibilities he has presented... I will need to digest, and maybe do some research. Read it and come to your own conclusions. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I would recommend Liminal Thinking to anyone who is endeavoring to bring about or inspire change in themselves, others or society; people like teachers, therapists, coaches, entrepreneurs, politicians, creative artists, designers, etc. This book is comprehensive in that the first section details the principles of liminal thinking and the second section explains practices of liminal thinking. Though the name may be new, liminal thinking has been around for a while. The roots of liminal thinking are very characteristic of liminal thinking itself. It has diverse influences from Jainism and Buddhism, the Pragmatist school of American philosophy to the nonviolent resistance ideas of Gandhi, MLK and Marshall Rosenberg. In these sharply politically divisive times, this book is a great source to inspire and bring in to practice ways of thinking that will serve to heal the world by creating understanding and connection rather than further polarizing it. As a footnote, I bought the Kindle version. I'm a graphic designer and I can say that this is one of the few books I've purchased that seems to be designed for the Kindle, unlike many other books which aren't designed for Kindle and have many irregularities and awkwardnesses in them.

It's a little bit embarrassing to write this review among such scholarly ones, but here we go.First, I love Dave Gray (founder of xplane). He probably doesn’t know that and that’s fine. I have been able to observe him in person from a distance on two different occasions; I have seen a few of his videos. I’ve read his books, even his 2.0 book Marks and Meaning. I love him for the way he shows up, huge and humble. And smart.So, when I read that he released a new book, Amazon had me. And when he mentioned that his source of inspiration and instruction was Cynthia Kurtz, her book, Working with Stories in Your Community or Organization, was delivered in the very same box. I opened the box today, giddy with my treasures.Back to Dave. I read it in one sitting, but I’m not putting it back on the bookshelf yet. For me, Liminal Thinking reads as a lengthy, informed love letter. Not one of those about my eyes being limpid pools, but one in which the author wants the very best for me because I matter. Yup. He says that. To me. On page 143.Liminal thinking means that you live on the edge of the possibility of change. Gray describeLove-letters Liminal Thinking as a core need because we each live in a world isolated by our beliefs. Those beliefs filter which facts and experience we pay attention to. Which then reinforce our beliefs. And to see more broadly and to embrace possibility, we need to examine our beliefs. If we want to connect with others, we need to understand their beliefs.The book appears simple and approachable. There is a chapter for each of 6 principles. Principle 6 is the scariest; that the deepest beliefs reinforce our identity. See, I told you. Scary. “I yam what I yam and that’s all that I yam.”The second half of the book contains 9 Practices. The principles are clear; the practices are simply stated and, well, practical. For example, if you want to challenge a belief or test it to see if it’s true, act as if it’s not. Gray’s got stories of clear examples for everything he writes about.I read the book with my “reinforcing belief bubble” on, that Dave Gray is very smart. I’ve still got that bubble. And now I’m sharing it with you.And. . . last night I stopped my normal pattern when my husband and I began once again talking about how to draw retirement income and asked him about his belief bubble. And just like magic, we were deep in conversation, rather than arguing about who had the right idea. Like I said, practical.

I was baffled by this one, as much of the book is the authors making fun of Full Moon, rather than embracing the enduring legacy of the studio and its colorful output. Normally these kind of books tend to gush, but this one has little passion for the subject matter, which is a shame. I did appreciate some of the interviews with Full Moon contributors, but otherwise this book is a wash. I hope someone who has more of an appreciation for genre cinema will pen a more fitting tribute book down the road.

I had thought this was going to go into how the films were made as well as the studio history, I am disappointed in how they just go from movie to movie with no info on how it was made at all. Some things are interesting but this was not really the book I was expecting from the description. Just really disappointed

A fun read. If you are a movie fan especially B- horror and sci-fi this is a interesting and fun book about one of the best direct to video movie companies. I Highly Recommend.

I recently purchased this amazing volume of Full Moon history. It definitely peeled back the onion of the company that gave us so much movie magic when we went to the video store. For Completists, this is a must-read. For the casual movie goer this is a revelation on how the business works.

This book arrived on Friday and despite its 480-page length, I finished it within a day and a half. It is an exhaustive guide to the films of Full Moon and Charles Band and is packed full of freshly researched information from dozens of interviews.

I remember when I was a kid I caught Puppetmaster on Tv on a Saturday afternoon while my mom took a nap. I had to keep it quiet so it didn’t wake her up and so I huddled close to the TV and had the crap scared out of me. It was such a unique movie. I hadn’t ever seen anything like it and after that I always tried to catch the plethora of sequels when they played on TV. I also remember combing the aisles of my local video stores and finding Full Moon movies with great covers. I couldn’t rent them because of those great covers, but I liked to look. Later I discovered the very gory Doll Man, Demonic Toys, and Trancers. Full Moon kept pumping out movies but I have to admit I was never a huge fan of their releases. Most of the time they were dull flicks without enough action that never lived up to the poster art. Some however are actually a lot of fun (Seedpeople, Shadowzone, and the aforementioned Puppet Master flicks). I’m fairly well versed with their movies and I know a little bit about Empire, the studio that predated Full Moon but honestly I was pretty ignorant. That is until I read It Came from the Video Aisle.It Came From the Video Aisle, written by David Jay, William Wilson, and Dewi Torsten, is a tome dedicated to the disreputable films of Full Moon. The book begins after the demise of Empire, so early on I must admit I was a bit confused. The book assumes that the reader already knows the story of Empire and while I know a little, I don’t know as much as this book thinks I do. Moving past those very early days the book is no longer confusing and paints a highly detailed picture of what it was like (and is still like) at Full Moon. We get tons of interviews from directors, actors, special effects people, cinematographers, writers, you name it. This information, gathered straight from those that were actually there, is very detailed and sprinkled with great anecdotes. No stone is left unturned as the book laboriously goes through each film (and even some films that were never produced). We learn where it was filmed, who wrote it, what it was like to shoot the film, what Charles Band’s thoughts and reactions were and more. Like I said, this is a very well researched and detailed book about the longstanding independent schlock studio.My only gripe with the book is that some of the information is “inside baseball.” There were references that I didn’t understand and acronyms that weren’t spelled out, but otherwise this is a fantastic book, a clear labor of love. If you are a fan of the studio then this is a must own book. You won’t find another book that will ever go into such detail, with so many great candid interviews and behind the scenes photos. I had fun reading this book and it has rekindled my interest in the studio and those early films that are so much fun.

Great book that features a lot of good interviews and is a must for any fan of Full Moon or B movies in general for that matter. I would've liked a little more focus on my favorite movies but considering the scope of the book it probably wasn't possible. Still, I highly recommend it!
