When most people hear the name Arthur Ashe, they think tennis and automatically go to HIV/AIDS. This book does not focus on that and instead teaches readers about his life on the court. While Crystal Hubbard does touch on the fact that Arthur was also a great speaker, she focuses mostly on his game and the incredible barriers he had to overcome as an African American.This is a great tribute to Arthur. I do wish however more focus was spent on what he did off the court as that is often overlooked. He was a great tennis player, but there was more to him. Any tennis (or sports) fan would like this book and it's a great book to read to younger readers learning about the history of tennis.

My son is learning to play tennis. He's nine years old, and of course, Mr. Ashe died before he was born. Reading this story about an exceptional athlete who also happened to have been a genuine hero was great for him. Ms. Hubbard wrote a story that is engaging in a way that we don't often see in biographies of this type. Just an all around great book.

Very nice arrangements for piano. Very playable.

This is one of my favorite piano books to play. I like playing at the intermediate/advanced level and this book is easy to play yet challenging enough that it's not boring. I wish there were more books like this one out there . . . beautiful piano solos of contemporary songs that we know and love! I also have the Casting Crowns piano solo book that is very similar to this one and I love it too. There are no words in this book, just piano solo scores and they are true to the actual songs! Not weird abstract arrangements that cut the song short like some piano solos do. If you love piano solos and you love MercyMe or other contemporary music, you'll love this book.

I ordered this book so maybe our choir could sing a couple of these songs. Nowhere in the title or description did it say this book was a piano solo book and would have NO WORDS. Even a piano solo book should have WORDS. If it had said there were NO WORDS, I would have bought it. I am going to see if I can get my money back.

I've only gone through the first couple of them, but having the music to play as an example of how it should sound, and then also just a piano track to play with is a huge help. I am very happy with these so far.

I started taking violin lessons as an adult in July 2010, and I am almost through the ABC series of 5 books. I am currently in this last book, and will probably finish it by June. I used to have a goal to get through the series within a year but by the time I started this last book, it no longer seemed important to get through it by a certain time. The pieces have become harder in this book (lots of position changes throughout) and I want to make them as good as I can, not just good enough so I can go on to the next lesson. Sometimes I revisit pieces from the earlier ABC books.Besides the ABC books, I also work in other books (usually alternating days), such as fiddling books, Wohlfahrt, Trott's Melodious Double Stops, Suzuki book 4, scale books, and any pop music that I want to play. I've also been playing in a community orchestra, and that helped me get better pretty fast. Mixing it up like that has helped keep me motivated, along with finding someone to play with. As I come up on one year of violin lessons and the end of the ABC books, I can highly recommend the ABC books to get one started on a lifetime of playing.

If Your looking for a book to teach someone to play this is it we used this item to teach our Grandson and Grand daughter.

This 5th book ends the series on a high note, playing violin classics and introducing necessary technique for the advanced player. Learning how to master these arpeggios, scales, and beautiful works will put you on the right track to becoming a great fiddler!

Not my first choice, but ok.

If you enjoy reading the experiences of those that have traveled the South Pacific, this one is great! Mr. Vila gives a great account of his time spent in and around Micronesia. In my opinion, he did everything right. He was respectful and empathic towards the people and their customs. He didn't have any derogative remarks about the indigenous people and went out of his way to learn and accept their languages and cultures. Mr. Vila's book is right up there with one of my favorite authors, J. Maarten Troost. The only negative is that he only wrote one book on this subject! Time for another trip, Mr. Vila! I want to hear more from you, please!

Other than being able to point to it on a map, I knew almost nothing about Micronesia when I started this book, and I enjoyed learning about the culture there, as well as the specific challenges that came with doing police work in a foreign country. The police work added an additional interesting aspect that you don’t find in most travelogues. Some of Bryan’s stories are hilarious, some are suspenseful, and some are touching. I had a hard time putting this book down!Bryan has a great attitude and the conversational style of this book was a delight to read. It is also worth mentioning that Bryan is nothing but respectful for the local cultures he worked with. Everyone traveling, living, and working in foreign countries should aspire to “build bridges that go both ways”.I really hope that there might be another volume of stories someday...

I read this book when I was visiting Chuuk and Pohnpei and found it to be a perfect compliment to my visit. I was even able to meet one the book's characters Bill (and his family) when we stayed at the Truk Stop in Chuuk. My only critique of the book is that it might have been good to use pseudonyms for the characters because they are real people and you wouldn't want any harm to ever come to them.

As a former resident of Micronesia, I found Bryan's work a very accurate and entertaining chronicle of his experiences there. For me, it was like a trip back in time, renewing my own memories of those beautiful islands and the wonderful people that live there. I recommend Micronesian Blues to any reader that appreciates adventure mixed with humor in an exotic environment. Very, very good read.

Some 30 plus years later many of the characters are still around in Pohnpei. It was also interesting to read the perspective of someone so involved in early law enforcement, knowing what issues persist in the different states and countries. It was an easy enjoyable read, but might not be so interesting if you haven't spent time here.

What a well written book. You see the hardship these islanders but up with. The book makes you laugh and cry. Bryan hit so many points of the real problems of dealing with such multi cultural islands. Well done and very good reading for all. Been there saw it! Shame on the world for what has been done to the islands.

I read this book for a "post-conflict" college course and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed reading it. It was a very easy and smooth read that kept me interested in the Bryan's learned lessons about developing a diverse country's police force. Even beyond the educational aspect of the book, I would suggest this book to anyone interested in an adventure book.

I enjoyed this book for its simple stories and well written narrative. Not a book that you can't put down but one full of great mini stories that are east to read. I loved hearing about the various culture shocks of working abroad.
