This tome is HEAVY in the weighted sense. I have used a few Cengage published books for a program of study. Most all of them have terrible editing. In this particular book, the exercises are replete with a writer who delivers the step by step and then assumes the reader knows the next step. It is not a critical step, from my perspective, however there are still some computer users who are not as computer literate as the writer assumes.In another book for a legal course, Cengage uses the wrong citation. Aren't editors supposed to catch that kind of really bad mistake. If you publish a book for students, the learning of the correct information may be more important that the editor, in this particular case, has taken care to protect.If it were a medical text... Cengage is a Boston based company. For shame Cengage - Boston is a mecca of brains - hire one to edit responsibly.

You can't advertise that this book comes with the website access card for rented books. Access code does not work, now I have to scramble to get a code.

Because of our class the book was really useless compared to the on line version and I hate on line but for the sections there were none listed in the book like for the on line version. So if the teacher said 'I need you to read section 4.2 - 4.5 and then 4.8 - 4.10' You never knew where the sections began and ended in the book to study the right thing. Not a good book in general anyways. Class info was generally better.

This book is outdated. No recent upgrades since 2013. It was very expensive and not functional due to it's material. Had I know this prior, I would not have purchased it. Very difficult downloading "old" material which doesn't work properly. The book should not be sold in it's current version. Updates are extremely necessary. Save yourself some money and do not buy this book until it upgrades to 2017 technology.

Book arrived in almost like new condition. A very thick and heavy book. Each lesson in MS Office is very detailed, step-by-step, so it can seem rather annoying for someone like myself who has experience using MS Office (especially when the instructor requires you to follow step-by-step instructions). Introduction of many legal software programs that I've never heard of, but now gain exposure through, through this text and it's "trial" software downloads.

This book gets two stars because the vast majority of the book is devoted to teaching you how to use the various software packages and it does a poor job at that. Many of the exercises don't match up with the software being used and it simply confuses you. You're basically left to figure things out for yourself.

The book is in ok condition. It DID NOT come with the access card, which I NEED for class!!!

It was exactly what I needed for my course. The software worked, which I was initially nervous about because it is a one time access code. It was super affordable compared to other places I looked to purchase the book with software. I was very happy with this purchase.

I always wanted to own this book for my toddler and I was afraid the graphics wouldn't be that great, but it is so amazing. I can't wait to read him this for Christmas! Just the version of it I was looking for!

If when browsing books, you select "hardback" after choosing a different book option like kindle or paperback, Amazon will switch it from a normal human size hardback to mini. However, the words on the book selection (yellow button) remain the same, only the subtitle of the book changes. These books are tinyyyyyyyyyyyyy., like palm of my hand small, seriously. I ordered two, one for a baby shower on the 29th and one for my daughter this Christmas. When they first arrived I laughed at how comically small the books were. In addition, one of the books had the inner pages stitched upside down. I called Amazon and they said they would send a replacement, I also told them about it being the mini version and not a typical hardback like I thought I chose. I said, please make sure it's the normal hardback size, she assured me it would be a normal book size but two days later, I received another teeny tiny book. I will be returning all three of these because I am not a mouse and no human could possibly enjoy a book this small.

I wanted this classic book but also wanted it to last so I bought a board book. A board book is like cardboard, hard pages from cover to cover. Vs a paperback that’s printed on paper cover to cover. Vs a hard cover book that has paper pages but the front and back covers are cardboard and hard. One thing I don’t do is look at dimensions because I can’t envision how big that is compared to something common. If someone were to review this book and say “this book is about half the size of a regular cereal box” I’d see that it’s an okay sized book. I put this on my 2 month old baby for photos but you can see how small it is. I also compared it to a box of wipes. It's smaller width wise but taller height wise. The pages are all hard since it’s a board book and none stuck together. The only complaint I have is that it’s pretty dark. I can understand its a night time book so everything is dark and they added light to the book. Christmas lights, Santa glowing, the stars etc and of course classic with all the words and etc. But seriously, my eyes aren’t the greatest and they’ll only get worse so I was struggling to engage with this book while reading. The words are clear the pictures are just dark even with the light added in the illustration to me. I added a photo with flash on and off. It doesn't seem super dark in the photos but up close I was squinting a little. With that said though, I think this is a staple book to have in every child’s collection!

 This is a wonderful entry in the series of Classic Coloring books featuring the artwork of Charles Santore. The poem is by Clement C. Moore and the illustrations are by Charles Santore. Along with the poem and the designs, there are small color pictures from the illustrated version of this book on the inside front and back covers. That way, you can use similar colors if you so choose.The coloring book is a larger than standard format. The designs are mostly done in line drawing form with some designs having considerable shading included. Those few images border on the edge of being grayscale designs.The poem and illustrations are set up in true storybook style, with the text on the left hand side (back of page) and the illustration to the right. The illustrations match well with the text on the facing page with a lot of emphasis on images of Santa.Some mediums will bleed through the page (see below), which will interfere with the text but if that doesn't bother you, you can treat the book as if the designs were one sided.This is what I found while coloring in the book and testing my coloring medium on the paper:23 Designs inspired by the famous poem “The Night Before Christmas”. Illustrations are by Charles Santore.Designs printed on one side of the page with storybook text on the back.Paper is white, every so slightly rough to touch, medium weight and non-perforatedHybrid glue and sewn binding (lots of small stitches.) You cannot snip threads to remove pages from the book.Designs stop short of the binding and have a framing line at the outer edgesBook opens easily to flat position for ease of coloring.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the pageWater-based markers and India ink markers leave a slight colorful shadow on the back of the page.Gel pens do not bleed through an left an indistinct shadow on the back of the page.Colored pencils did well with this paper. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I was easily able to get good pigment with multiple layers of the same color. I also was able to layer multiple colors and blend well using a blender stick.

This is an over sized, board book reproduction, of the 1949 original golden book that we grandparents had when we were young- only this is sturdy so my little sister cannot tear out the pages in this one! Tho likely she has outgrown that habit, it's safe from the grandkids as well. We kept this one for ourselves, and is so big, we used it as part of the decor in our game room, which has an 'oldies' themed tree. It's app 9'' x 11'', seems to be a faithful repro of the original, the binding allows it to lay flat while reading, but possibly the binding may not hold up to abuse. Since it is special to us I wouldn't leave it in with the mass of books the little ones have anyway, but read it to them when they visit, perfect size for that. Am happy to see that the company seems to be bringing out some board book repros of the 'oldies but goodies' that we loved as kids, will be buying more, especially the over sized ones. The one downside for me that this book is made in China, would have gladly paid more for these old classics to be made here.

About the Author

John H. Falk is a leading figure in free-choice learning, museum research, and science education in the United States. Currently, he holds the position Sea Grant Professor of Free-Choice Learning at Oregon State University. He is founder and Director Emeritus of the well-known museum research firm, Institute for Learning Innovation, in Annapolis, Maryland and has worked at a variety of other key positions in the museum world, including 14 years at the Smithsonian Institution. Falk earned a joint doctorate in Biology and Education from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of over one hundred scholarly articles and chapters in the areas of biology, psychology and education, co-author with Lynn Dierking of The Museum Experience, Learning from Museums: Visitor experiences and the making of meaning, and Lessons without Limit: How free-choice learning is transforming education, with Beverly Sheppard of Thriving in the Knowledge Age: New business models for museums and other cultural institutions and editor of numerous books including Free-Choice Science Education: How we learn science outside of school. I am giving this a five because I think that it hits on all of the points of museums. However, I would like to add that this is really for the beginner, or for someone who just likes to read everything they can about a subject. To be honest, I opened it just enough to get my discussion board done, and even some weeks didn't open this one at all. Why? because the same information is in other books. However, I think that for someone just getting into Museum studies, this is a perfect first book.

Excellent book and in-depth overview of the museum "business", the constituent's profiles, and challenges museums face in the 21st century. A must read for anyone going into the museum non-profit sector.

Excellent update. It's hard to find books on the museum field written in an engaging manner. This one isn't perfect, but getting there.

"Made in Cuba, assembled in Spain, imported to the USA" is how Blanco describes his story in shorthand. So, you would expect his memoir to be filled with stories and reflections that are completely unique to him. And, he has done just that - in a brilliant, engaging and, at times, hilarious way. However, he's also written a story that speaks to anyone who has tried to find their place in the world and within their own family. His descriptions of family members are both vivid and yet somehow familiar, regardless of your ethnic heritage. Blanco's stories will have you unexpectedly thinking about your own family, as well as the tales and trials that make up your personal story. In my case, his abuelita and my nana could have been sisters - perhaps because of the DNA that is commonly found in tough, immigrant grandmothers. In his "For All of Us, One Day: An Inaugural Poet's Journey", Blanco provided a glimpse into his journey that left me wanting to experience more of the journey. "The Prince of los Cocuyos: A Miami Childhood" more than satisfies that craving.

It is impportant when you read this memoir that you read what Richard Blanco says at the beginning because what he does is define memoir which is not the same as an autobiography. In other words, this poet turned memoirist makes clear that he, at times, fictionalizes but only for the purpose of enhancing what he is writing about. You will, I think, be trapped within the first few pages when you meet his Cuban-born abuela (grandmother) who is a character you want staying in the pages, not living next door! I love how Mr. Blanco is able to reach back into his past, especially with this abuela, and find the kernels that make her an important component of his childhood including her homophobic rants and what, today, we would all recognize as child abuse. But she brought with her, as did the rest of his family, the ways of some Cubans. Because I live in South Beach and interact every day with Cubans, mostly those who were born here, of course, I especially liked this memoir because it is salted with information (and espanol as well) that I have experienced. Like his wonderful poetry, this is a wonderful memoir.

Richard Blanco’s childhood stories growing up in Miami are hilarious (his convincing his grandmother to host their first traditional Thanksgiving–which starts with her thawing the turkey in the backyard grass), and heartbreaking (his growing up being constantly told men are to behave like men and never appear feminine let alone be gay), while showing the tug-o-war he felt with accepting his family’s culture and pushing it away for the American way. From beginning to end this was an entertaining and full of heart look at growing-up Cuban-American in Miami. (If you’re wondering what a cocuyo is it’s a click beetle that has glowing green eyes. It’s Miami’s version of a firefly.)

I have lived in Miami for almost 40 years and have had many first and second generation Cuban friends just like the people in this wonderful memoir. I never fully understood the intensity of their connection to the island until reading this memoir about love and loss of things barely understood. A joyous and sometimes funny read. One of the author's eyes is opened wide by the close of the novel, but the other is only awkwardly beginning to open. I am consoled by knowing how this sensitive and intelligent young man eventually found the special love that once eluded him and grew into a national treasure. Compulsory reading for any child of Cuban exiles, especially if you are from Miami and/or gay.

I'm a first year college student, and I chose The Prince of Los Cocuyos for a book review for my history class. This book was a good choice and overall interesting read to look further into the lives of Cuban American families and the struggles of being gay in the Cuban culture. Richard Blanco repeatedly compares the lives of his older family members when they lived in Cuba to the life he lived being in Miami, Florida for majority of his life. Furthermore, the struggles of Americanization challenged Blanco and his family to keep their cultural roots but also adapt to the American ways of living. The book also creates a realistic world of a Cuban gay male and how there are certain cultural standards to live to and the influence of elders with their opinions of gay individuals. Not only was this book a great choice for an assignment but personally interesting and informative to develop new perspectives on the struggles of immigration and coming out as openly gay.

I was right there with Richard as he navigated a life not quite this or quite that. Is ihe a Cuban or American? is the one unclear place in his life as he gets to explore the America of Disney and hang with more "Americans" -- his other exploration is his sexual preference. It is clear he loves women, especially the relatives who visit, who bring him presents, who squeeze his cheeks, who admire and appreciate him. Of course, Abuela is constantly making him closed in on his already hidden gay feelings. Then what I liked are the young men who came into his life, the ones who are or may be gay, certainly ones who exude life. I love his descriptions of El Cocuyos from the stocking of the wine to the banter of the regulars. Maybe only at the end as he fast forwards to the "now" of his life, it is rushed, but that's where the reader sees he has figured out a lot of his life. I just don't know if I wanted to know that part. That could be Part II of Blanco's memoir, and it may be. I love the author's poetry and love that he was the poet who read at Obama's 2nd inauguration, oh, and that he went to FIU, my alma mater. He brings his poetic senses to the heart of this book.
